Returning to piano after hip surgery

Written by

I am a classical musician - I play the French horn in many different professional orchestras and have been doing this for over 10 years!

I also love to play the piano (very badly!) but have never had time to improve since school.

When I had my hip surgeries, I really enjoyed being able to sit at the piano everyday (I had enough time!) and I actually improved for the first time in years!

Even though I was recovering, it was a unique period where I wasn’t playing my horn or teaching and I could play music again, a little bit more for fun, as I could play whatever I wanted!

Playing music or time spent focusing on learning an instrument can be wonderfully absorbing.

I started teaching a few adult beginner pupils during the lockdown and they have said that for that time they are playing music they don’t think about anything else.
